Leadership Meeting
The parts of the meeting today, 11/6/12 that pertain to Biology and Medical Futures Club:
We discussed all the groups in the school. The Biology and Medical Futures Club currently has one event on March 23rd, which is the Science Fest at the local library. Also, we discussed Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts. If we were to raise money for Hurricane Sandy, it would ideally be donated to the Red Cross along with the money raised from other groups within the school, in order to make one large school donation. Also, a bulletin board with all the events dedicated to Hurricane Sandy efforts will be posted in the school. I have discussed with the Law Club the prospect of reenacting a historical event pertinent to biology or medicine, such as the Scopes Trial, and they may be willing to join us in a joint project if we decide to do so.
Hopefully we will have more things to present at the next leadership meeting!!
Update from the Competitions Committee
From the head of the Competitions Committee
As you may or may not be aware, registration for the U.S.A. Biology Olympiad opened as of October 29. That being said, I would like to register our school as soon as possible. Although I see no sense in scheduling a committee meeting at the moment, I plan to work in conjunction with the advisor to insure that our school is registered. Registration can be completed online. I am not aware of any costs at this time. I suspect that such information will be provided later in the registration process. However, the first part of the registration requires information regarding the test administrator (which I suspect will be a teacher), which is why I have to work with a club adviser to complete the registration process Now, as far as I am aware, our school has previously participated in the USABO during and after the 2011 Tournament. Therefore, all we have to do is renew previous registration. Also, we suspect we may have to contact last year's adviser in order to gain more information.
Note: The Biology and Medical Futures Club has had this opportunity for its members in the past. It has been strongly recommended, if you wish to join this competition, that you are taking or have taken AP Biology. You may be required to pay a small fee to participate in this competition to cover registration costs.
